I bought the 16GB version (Transcend 16GB SDHC Card with Compact Card Reader) of this package a few months ago. The card was intended to be used in my Canon S5 camera. But I soon found that it works very well with the included card reader as a USB flash drive (much bigger and faster than my SanDisk Cruzer Micro 4GB). So I ended up with mainly for data backup and transfer between my laptop and desktop computers. The card has proved fast and reliable in the past 2-3 months of daily use.
When first I was skeptical about Transcend’s speed rating of ‘class 6′, which at least 6MB / S when writing means. But my own benchmark results (see Customer Images) showed that this card is capable of writing typical photo files at 10. 5MB / S – nearly twice the specified minimum data transfer rate. For reference, the SanDisk 8GB Extreme III claims a faster speed of 20MB / S, but it costs about twice as much.
Given the low cost and respectable speed, this Transcend is an excellent card purchase. But make sure you only order a reputable supplier. Several reviewers who ordered the 16GB version of TheMemStore complained that they have some no-name card reader (instead of the Transcend DRS5 received). This may explain why some people have problems using this card to come.
[Update on June 8, 2009]
I have purchased a total of three Transcend SDHC cards (two 16GB + 8GB one) over the last 10 months. They all worked perfectly so far. The second 16GB card for use in my new Canon Rebel T1i/500D. I’ve heard that some other brands of the “class 6″ card can not keep pace with the camera in video mode and will cause a buffer overflow within a few minutes. But the Transcend card has no problems. I’m going to my third 16GB card to buy next.
[Update on September 14, 2009]
I have strongly recommended Transcend SDHC cards in the past, because they were much cheaper than the Sandisk Extreme III (Class 6) cards, and worked fine in my applications. But in light of the many complaints about failures Transcend card, and my recent finding that SanDisk Ultra II (class-2 / 4) cards are as fast as Transcend class “-6 ‘cards, I now recommend Sandisk Ultra II a better and safer choice.

Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 6 Secure Digital Card with Bonus SD Card Reader
best thing about vacations is that they give you the perfect reason to go out and buy new toys! I’m going to Costa Rica for eight days of adventure and after looking fondly at my Canon SD850IS, the first thing I thought was: “I need more space. One mistake I made when I bought my 2GB SD card was underestimating how many videos I would take this little camera (which this camera is surprisingly good).
Activities we have planned for the CR, I wanted to make sure I have enough memory to all those crazy adventures capture (volcano hikes, zip lines, canopy tours, rafting, diving, etc. have..)
* So how much will it save?
At max resolution here are the capacities:
Pictures: 8MP at Superfine resolution: 4496 Photos
Video: 640×480, 30 fps, 127 minutes and 38 seconds!
continu-opnamen of 30 seconds without flash at max res: 34 pictures (Canon claims 1. 4 frames per second). Please note, I like my results with the Sandisk Extreme III 2GB SDHC
* Transfer Performance Test Bed: 340MB Video File, USB hub, on my desktop (AMD X2). . . Each test was repeated five times and the average taken (what can I say, I’m OCD: D)
the included SD card reader: 17 seconds (20 MB / sec)
Connects directly to the camera: 50 seconds (6. 8 MB / sec – ie in accordance with the Class 6 rating)
With the SD card reader and go through my laptop ( IBM T41P): 29 seconds (11. 7 MB / sec)
In other words, depending on your hardware and meets or exceeds the speed rating.
I also have a Sandisk Extreme III 2GB SDHC card, which has a faster transfer its own. The only test above that it performed better over the transfer to my laptop (22 seconds vs. 29). It seems based on the transfer rates that the camera is the limiting factor, but with the included SD card reader, that limitation is a non issue.
I’m lucky – I found this card on a lark, and the day after I bought it, the price rose $ 30. Considering this product was announced in November ‘07 and just released, not to mention the competitor priced around $ 50 – $ 100 more, the price I paid for it was just too good to pass up. < br />
So with all that said,
Pros:
– Price (~ 150MB / $)
– Performance is in line (and meets or exceeds) with its class rating
– 2 hours video WOOO!
Cons:
– It is new and unproven. The only question that remains is or will hold over time. . . If something changes in the coming month. . . I’ll let you know:)
Enjoy!

This one has to give all five stars. I have video recording with a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder at the highest resolution 1920×1080 @ 60i, thats 60 interlaced frames a second, I expected this flash card to give me problems because of the low price, but to its credit me ” ‘ve been able to record approx. 2 hours nonstop video with no hicups. Very solid product, I currently own two of them.

Although the card is fine, which is the main reason I bought the reader does not correctly recognized in a USB port on both my desktop or laptop, both running XP. Both computers ’see’ the drive and I can navigate to the files on the card, however, when I try to copy all files? Run to the card, I get a message indicating the card is blocked. . . it is not. . . I have that in the final two positions on the map several times to make sure. The card reads fine in the built-in SD reader on my laptop and a SanDisk reader is connected to my desktop.
I tried downloading the driver and app Transcend website, but it is broken because it does not ’see’ that the reader is attached. . . tried the card with the card out. . . same result.
If the main reason you purchase this combo is nice little reader, you’d think twice.

Transcend offers a great combination – a 16 GB SDHC card reader and a truly compact – for a very competitive price. There are class June 1916 gig SDHC cards on the market for more than three times the money.
The reader also allows me the 16 gig card exchanges with an 8 gig Transcend SDHC card I bought separately, which increases the versatility of both items.
But wait, there’s more.
I own an ASUS EEE PC computer (Asus Eee PC 4G (7 Screen, 800 MHz Intel Celeron processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB hard drive, Linux Preloaded) Pearl White) that comes with a built-in SDHC slot to enhance on-board hard drive capacity. With the 8 gig Transcend card and the 16 gig card and the reader comes with, one I can if I want to slap 24 super-portable, solid-state performances of fast memory on my EEE when I’m traveling. I have two cards is via the SDHC slot, no problem, and using the card reader, I tried both from all three of the built-in USB slots and USB hubs connected to each of the 3 USB slots as well.
Bottom line? They work great – especially with the ASUS Eee PC.
Good job, Transcend – highly recommended.
